While We Were Out

These poor kids deserve privacy.

These poor kids deserve privacy. The parents need some serious counseling for thinking that this was a good idea.

I’ve already gone against my better judgement and written about Jon & Kate Plus 8 in the past (please forgive me) but I need to go there again.

I was at another cookout where people were still talking about these people.  It appears that Kate — previously believed to be the evil shrew — is now the more popular of the two because Jon has been hooking up with some young blondes of questionable character.  There is evidently Team Jon and Team Kate, and people seriously want to know whose side you’re on.

How about this: what about Team 8?  These adults are both irresponsible enough to pimp out their children’s personal lives on national television.  The kids didn’t have a choice in the matter, and someone needs to stick up for them.  I find it hard to imagine that Child Protective Services allows people like the Gosselins and Octomom to sell the rights to their children’s privacy.

The Jon & Kate Phenomenon

Posted by TallGirl in Opinion, Tallgirl

I don’t watch Jon & Kate Plus 8. I have no interest in the show, and thought that the rest of the sane world felt the same way. Yet every day of this holiday weekend I found myself at a gathering discussing these people. They’re the talk of the town.

Even more strangely, people seem to feel like their privacy is being violated because both are reportedly having affairs.

Privacy?

Let me see if I’ve got this straight: these people aren’t celebrities in the standard sense. They didn’t choose a profession, like musician or actor or athlete, that comes with the side effect of paparazzi. Instead, they had a boatload of kids and willingly signed away the rights to have their private lives filmed. Right?

Sorry folks, but once you invite cameras into your home, once you allow your children to be videotaped 24/7 and broadcast on national TV, you have no claim to privacy anymore. Period. You asked for the spotlight on your private lives. You can’t complain when that bright light reveals things that you don’t want people to see. This was your choice. Now you live with the consequences.

Thus endeth my rant.

Weekly Wrap-Up: Apr. 6 – Apr. 10

Posted by BigRedPoet in BigRedPoet, Weekly Wrap-Up

The grass has turned from brown to green, there’s baseball on TV, and high school seniors really don’t care any more. It’s spring! We here at The Daily Procrastinator have been reveling in the joy of the season, and we celebrated by posting another crop of interesting, amusing, and/or distracting articles this week. Read on to make sure you didn’t miss a thing.

The week began with some meditations on working. First, TallGirl confessed that she’s a workaholic. How does one get to that terrifying state, you may ask. According to our Procrastinator, it’s a slippery slope. Beware! In another work-related incident, TallGirl discovered that she had more old tax forms than she felt like shredding, so she set them on fire. The resulting photograph is fantastic.

In keeping with our recently established tradition of posting an amusing animal picture with each Weekly Wrap-Up, here's a frog who's plotting world domination.

The arrival of baseball season tugged at both BigRedPoet’s and FlashCap’s heartstrings this week. First, BRP posted a reminiscence of his history with America’s pastime, ranging from his childhood fascination with the game to opening day of the 2009 campaign. Later, FlashCap paid homage to both baseball and T.S. Eliot with his tribute The Base(ball) Land.

In the world of entertainment, The Daily Procrastinator cast its net pretty wide this week. For starters, BigRedPoet posted his review of a board game called Last Night On Earth: The Zombie Game. After trying the game just a few times, he’s hooked! TallGirl threw her hat into the entertainment ring with a pop-quiz (or is it snarky social commentary?) about reality television.
